On July 29, 2026, NextEra Energy announced a data center campus with Brookfield at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Paducah Site in western Kentucky, with over 1.2 GW of compute capacity. The plan pairs the campus with up to 4.6 GW of dedicated generation: up to 2 GW of natural gas and up to 2.6 GW of battery storage. The companies put the privately funded investment at $100 billion, with construction to be completed by 2032.
NextEra said the project is subject to negotiation and execution of definitive documentation; Big Rivers Electric, Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative and Paducah Power System are named as partners.
