On October 12, 2026, Microsoft said it will scale the Azure Maia family of custom AI accelerators to multi-gigawatt deployments, making Maia the primary inference system for Microsoft products and services. Maia 200 is already serving production workloads, including Microsoft Copilot, and is deploying across the United States, Europe and Australia; GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Foundry are to follow by the end of the year. The third-generation Maia 300 begins production deployments in 2027. Microsoft did not give a gigawatt figure or name specific datacenters.
Microsoft said a Maia 300 rack holds 96 accelerators in a 167-kilowatt envelope. Chip details are in our news report: Microsoft unveils Azure Maia 300.
