Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber: Fairwind Program only

Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is “available to a set of trusted defenders via the Fairwind Program,” according to Google. The company names “government authorities, as well as critical infrastructure operators and software maintainers” as the groups it is aimed at. The Fairwind Program is the same channel Google later used for the first rollout of Gemini 4 Argon on September 30.

Benchmark results

All results below were published by Google in the announcement.

Benchmark Model Result
HLE-Verified Gemini 3.8 Flash 54.9%
CWE-Bench (patching), Pass@1 Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber 47.2%
Real-world vulnerability discovery Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber Success rate above 70%

Google says the HLE-Verified score shows the model’s “ability to handle multi-step reasoning across STEM, humanities, and professional fields.” On CWE-Bench, Google compares Flash Cyber’s 47.2% pass@1 with “a leading frontier model at 47.8%” and places Flash Cyber “on the Pareto frontier.” For vulnerability discovery, Google says the model “reaches a success rate exceeding 70%,” which it describes as a leap over its previous models.

Google also says “3.8 Flash outperforms 3.7 Flash and other frontier models in benchmarks like Vals Finance Agent V2 and Harvey’s Legal Agent Benchmark.” Lab-published scores are tracked on our benchmark leaderboard.

What it changes

The release splits Google’s Flash tier in two: a general version for developers and consumers, and a security-focused version behind a vetting program. For most users, Gemini 3.8 Flash is the model that changes, since it reaches the Gemini app, Search’s AI Mode and Google Sheets as well as the API. Security teams that want Flash Cyber’s patching and vulnerability-discovery capabilities have to go through Fairwind.

Both models are listed on our AI model release timeline, and service health for Gemini is tracked on the Gemini status page.
