OpenAI held DevDay 2026 at Fort Mason in San Francisco on September 29, 2026, with an opening keynote by Sam Altman that was livestreamed. According to OpenAI’s DevDay 2026 recap, the announcements spanned a new model, GPT-6.1 Sol, a faster serving tier, always-on agents called Dots, an Agents API with Computer Use, and a set of Codex and ChatGPT workplace features.

GPT-6.1 Sol and Ultrafast
GPT-6.1 Sol is an upgrade of GPT-6 Sol aimed at coding, document analysis and business automation. OpenAI describes it as delivering “near-Astra intelligence,” a comparison with its GPT-6 Astra model. It is available in the API as gpt-6.1-sol and, in ChatGPT, to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex.
OpenAI published these comparisons on its own evaluations:
| Benchmark (as named by OpenAI) | GPT-6.1 Sol result, per OpenAI |
|---|---|
| DeepSWE v1.1 | Matches GPT-6 Astra; 6.4 points above GPT-6 Sol |
| OSWorld 2.0 | 7 points above GPT-6 Sol; within 2.1 points of GPT-6 Astra |
| AutomationBench (medium reasoning effort) | 4.8 points above GPT-6 Sol |
| Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 (maximum reasoning effort) | More than double GPT-6 Sol’s score |
The new Ultrafast tier offers “up to 8× faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex,” according to the recap, and is generally available in the API.
Agents and developer tools
- Dots: “always-on agents built to handle everything,” generally available for Pro and Business, in beta for Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare.
- Agents API with Computer Use: lets agents “interact with software to complete tasks,” generally available through the API.
- Bedrock Managed Agents: AWS-native agents powered by OpenAI that run “entirely in AWS.”
- Codex in the Cloud: run Codex “remotely from a phone, or in the cloud from any device.”
- Codex Security Cloud: infrastructure scanning with automated fixes.
- Decisions API: real-time classification and routing, in limited preview.
ChatGPT for teams
- ChatGPT Space: a “dedicated space where teammates, ChatGPT, and your dot can build on shared knowledge.”
- Pages: documents for “human and agent collaboration” inside ChatGPT.
- Team Tasks: delegating recurring work to ChatGPT with tool integrations, for Business and Enterprise.
- Sign in with ChatGPT: one account across 16 partners, including Devin and Notion.
- OpenAI Marketplace: lets enterprise customers “apply part of their existing OpenAI commitment toward approved partner software.”
DevDay Exchanges
OpenAI also said it is “bringing DevDay Exchanges to Bengaluru, Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, Berlin, London, São Paulo, and Mexico City” later in 2026.
What it changes
Several launches are about agents that run on their own rather than answering one prompt at a time: Dots in ChatGPT, the Agents API with Computer Use for developers, and Bedrock Managed Agents for AWS customers who want that work to stay inside AWS. For developers, the practical additions are a new model ID (gpt-6.1-sol), the Ultrafast tier in the API and computer use through the Agents API.
GPT-6.1 Sol is listed in our AI model release timeline; service health for the developer platform is on the OpenAI API status page.
