Live OpenAI API status from OpenAI's official status page, to check whether the API is down right now.

This page reads OpenAI's official status feed in your browser and shows what OpenAI reports for the OpenAI API that developers call from their own applications: the current state, open incidents and recent incidents, each linked to the provider's own notice. It refreshes every minute while the page is open.

How to read the status

  • Operational: OpenAI reports no problem with the API.
  • Degraded or partial problems: some requests fail or are slow, or one part of the API is affected.
  • Major outage: OpenAI reports the API, or a main part of it, as unavailable.
  • Under maintenance: planned work announced by OpenAI.

The status is what OpenAI itself publishes. Providers usually post an incident a few minutes after problems start, so a short gap between your errors and the official status is common.

If the OpenAI API fails for you but the status is operational

  • Read the error code your request returns and OpenAI's documentation for it: rate limits, quota and authentication errors are not outages.
  • Try the same request from another network or machine to rule out a local problem.
  • Check the OpenAI status page again a little later: new incidents appear there first.
