How to read the status
- Operational: OpenAI reports no problem with ChatGPT.
- Degraded or partial problems: some requests fail or are slow, or one part of the service is affected.
- Major outage: OpenAI reports the service, or a main part of it, as unavailable.
- Under maintenance: planned work announced by OpenAI.
The status is what OpenAI itself publishes. Providers usually post an incident a few minutes after problems start, so a short gap between your errors and the official status is common.
If ChatGPT is not working for you but the status is operational
- Reload the page or restart the app, and try another browser, device or network to rule out a local problem.
- Check whether you are signed in and whether your plan's usage limits apply; a limit message is not an outage.
- Check the OpenAI status page again a little later: new incidents appear there first.
